Empowering Education in Nepal: GAN’s Commitment to Excellence

GAN: Over 25 Years of Educational Excellence in Nepal

GAN has a proud legacy of over 25 years in the field of education in Nepal. Our work includes training teachers and collaborating with the VSO-funded Sister to Sister network. We are dedicated to upholding the highest standards of safeguarding, with clear policies and practices firmly in place. Our research team will receive specialized training in safeguarding issues and will be connected with Global Action Nepal and other partners working on this project. Please note that no children under the age of 16 will be interviewed as part of our research efforts.
At GAN Centre, we offer specialized courses for teachers and students during summer and winter vacations, as well as throughout the year. Our curriculum includes financial education, emotional intelligence, computer science, and art and craft. By integrating these essential subjects, we prepare our students to thrive in the 21st century, equipping them with the skills and knowledge they need for future success.

Problem Statement

Lack of Financial Literacy:

Many students graduate without a strong understanding of basic financial concepts like budgeting, saving, and investing. This knowledge gap leads to challenges in managing personal finances, resulting in debt, financial insecurity, and limited economic opportunities.

Emotional Intelligence Deficit:

Emotional intelligence (EI) is essential for both personal and professional success, yet it's often overlooked in traditional education. Skills such as self- awareness, empathy, resilience, and conflict resolution are crucial for navigating relationships, coping with stress, and making responsible decisions. Understanding one’s mind should be a fundamental part of education.

Inadequate Computer Science Skills:

As technology rapidly advances, computer science skills have become vital for future careers. However, many schools fall short in providing comprehensive computer science education, leaving students underprepared for a tech- driven job market.

Neglect of Art and Craft:

Artistic and creative pursuits are key to developing self-expression, critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovation. Unfortunately, the declining emphasis on art and craft education limits the development of these essential skills and hinders students' holistic growth.

Our Solution

Integration of Financial Education:

Develop a comprehensive financial literacy curriculum led by financial management experts. Teach essential financial concepts, including budgeting, saving, investing, and responsible borrowing.
Utilize practical exercises, simulations, and real-life examples to enhance understanding and application.

Emotional Intelligence Curriculum:

Implement a structured EI program focusing on self-awareness, self-regulation, social awareness, relationship management, and decision-making skills. Conduct workshops and interactive sessions to enhance EI among students and teachers. Foster a positive and inclusive school culture that encourages emotional well-being and empathy.
Prioritize education that promotes clarity of mind, enabling students to overcome selfishness and reactive emotions, leading to personal transformation.

Strengthening Computer Science Education:

Enhance the computer science curriculum by integrating programming, coding, data analysis, and digital literacy.
Provide training and professional development opportunities for teachers to ensure effective delivery of computer science education.
Partner with local tech companies and professionals to offer mentorship, internships, and exposure to real-world applications of computer science.

Promoting Art and Craft Education:

Revitalize the art and craft curriculum by introducing diverse art forms, techniques, and mediums.
Encourage creative expression, critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovation through hands-on art projects.
Organize exhibitions, performances, and competitions to showcase students' talents and foster pride in their creative abilities.

Implementation Plan:

Needs Assessment:

Conduct a comprehensive assessment to identify gaps and challenges in the current education system.

Curriculum Development:

Design and develop curriculum materials, including textbooks, lesson plans, and teaching aids for each subject area.

Teacher Training:

Provide training for educators on effective delivery methods, pedagogical approaches, and assessment strategies for financial education, emotional intelligence, computer science, and art and craft.

Partnerships:

Establish partnerships with local financial institutions, community organizations, technology companies, and artists to provide resources, expertise, and support for implementing these initiatives.

Monitoring and Evaluation:

Regularly monitor and evaluate the progress and impact of the integrated education program through assessments, surveys, and feedback mechanisms.

Continuous Improvement:

Continuously update and refine the curriculum based on evolving student needs and the changing landscape of finance, technology, and creative industries.
